Chart of accounts
A starting chart for a Canadian small company: banded by account type, with gaps left for insertion, and the sales-tax and payroll liability accounts already separated.
Download CSVNo sign-up. Opens in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.
What is in it
- 42 accounts across assets, liabilities, equity, income and expenses
- Separate GST/HST payable and recoverable accounts
- Payroll liabilities split so each one reconciles on its own
- Numbering banded with gaps, so inserting an account never forces a renumber
Importing it into Comma
The columns match Comma’s account import, so you can load this straight in rather than typing forty accounts. Edit it first: delete what you do not need and rename what you do, because a chart you have pruned is worth more than a complete one you have not read.
A note on using it
This is a starting point, not a standard. Every business has something in it that does not fit a generic template, and the version worth keeping is the one you have edited. If a line does not answer a question you actually ask, delete it.
