Model Context Protocol (MCP)
Also known as: MCP
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI assistants securely connect to external tools and data through a well-defined interface.
MCP gives an AI assistant a structured set of tools it can call — read a report, create an invoice, categorize a transaction — instead of guessing from a web page. Each tool has a clear contract, and access is authorized and scoped.
For accounting, that means an assistant can operate the actual books through a controlled interface, with permissions and an audit trail, rather than copy-pasting numbers.
How Comma handles it
Comma is a remote MCP server: connect Claude, ChatGPT, or Claude Code and it can run the books within the connecting user's role, with every action logged and revocable in one click.
